SparkNotes: Born and raised in Syracuse NY, attended school, met my wife, and lived in Rochester NY for 6 years, then abandoned the East Coast for sunnier skies in Tucson in 2016. I now spend my time bringing people into other people’s homes when they aren’t there, arguing over legal documents on the phone, supporting my wife as she climbs the corporate ladder, and encouraging my son not to be a realtor.

FULL TEXT: In the dead of night on a cold Christmas Eve in 1991, I arrived in this world as the sixth child to my long suffering parents. I was unceremoniously dropped by the doctor due to being slippery and stubborn, traits which did not end there. 

Raised in rural Upstate NY, alongside what grew to 10 feral siblings, I was homeschooled all the way through highschool graduation. I experienced my first contact with the outside world when I began working full-time at 14 years old. Upon learning how to interact with other human beings in a manner expected by society, I enrolled in college at the illustrious Rochester Institute of Technology. 

Despite my presence at a tech school, I felt my time would be best invested in studying Film and Animation, so thus followed the next four years, which consisted of many wild and  bizarre events. I met my wife during this time while setting a mattress on fire in the middle of a road for a project that would eventually become the official music video for a Manchester Orchestra song. Surprisingly, even after spending the next  5 years watching me exist in this period of my life, she agreed to marry me. We promptly then got rid of everything that did not fit in a small, unreliable hatchback, packed up our animals, and drove said hatchback from Rochester  NY to Tucson AZ. 

The car was never the same after that trip, but upon our arrival in Tucson we knew we were where we belonged. I took a position driving a FedEx truck, because I needed a job and they were hiring. The monotony and thankless aspects of that job served to crush my dreams and aspirations of a better life, and upon being told that there were no more advancement opportunities, I began attending Hogan School of Real Estate. My passion and excitement for the real estate profession began to grow, and I was excited for the first time in years at the prospect of hurdling off a cliff into the unknown of being an independent contractor and so, with the full support of my now bread-winning and pregnant wife, I bid a heated farewell to FedEx and slapped my name all over my truck and started asking anyone and everyone if they needed help buying or selling real estate. 

My first year in real estate was a wild ride. Turns out that real estate school teaches you just enough to stay out of jail, but everything else you have to figure out on your own. Learning how to build a business and a brand from the ground up, polishing up my negotiating skills, learning how to navigate the field, coupled with the birth of my son all made for an eventful time for everyone involved. But, through it all I learned that this was what I was meant to be doing, and there is nothing more challenging, scary, and fun than working in real estate.

My son and I spend most days doing some combination of real estate activities: showings, inspections, paperwork, negotiations, etc. Together with my wife, we also take advantage of every possible moment to go camping, hiking, off-roading, shooting, or exploring. I also like to tell people I am a runner, but the only problem with that is that I then have to actually run, so you can usually catch me training on the streets of the eastside and competing in many races and mud runs around the city.
